Trouble Shooting
If the polstergeist application is not working it could
be for one of the following reasons.
- Read through the trouble shooting tips below
and if all else fails simply go to www.polstergeist.com
and press the Launch button to reinstall the application. The Data directory will
be preserved so you will not lose any requests or reports you have previously saved.
- The .Net Framework Version 2.0 or higher might not
be installed on your computer. You can manually check to see if the framework is
installed by opening the folder C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework. If you spot
a directory with the name v2.0.50727 or a higher version number then your system
has the required framework. If the framework is not on your computer you can
download it from the Microsoft website.
- Your Internet connection might be down. Test
this scenario by attempting to navigate to any web site. Of course if that is the case
you probably wouldn't be reading this so it's a rather mute point.
- There may be network connectivity issues related to
your firewall or proxy server. The Polstergeist product has built in proxy detection
code and will prompt you for an internet userid and password if it is required.
There may also be file read/write restrictions placed on your computer by your corporate
security team if you are accessing polstergeist from a a corporate network. The
best solution in this case is to restrict the use of the Polstergeist product to
your home environment.
- The Polstergeist Server might be down. Test this scenario
by attempting to navigate to the Polstergeist home page www.polstergeist.com
- On occassion a web site might not respond as expected
(e.g. an airline which does not fly to a particular destination). In this case the
report will record a message of "Data Not Available" for the service in question. You can press the red cancel button at any time to
cancel any extraction jobs which appear to have stalled. The Extractor will assign
a message of "Extraction job was canceled" to any service item that was still being processed
when you pressed the Cancel button.
- A particular extraction request may fail to retrieve
the expected data. This could happen if the target web site is experiencing problems
or if the site itself has changed thereby invalidating our data maps. The Polstergeist
Team continuously monitors the services we have mapped and will re-map any sites
when ever we detect a change. Simply resubmit your service request again at a later
time and if the problem persists, feel free to send us an email detailing the problem
encountered.
